Rule update

There are several new rules in effect.

Callers are officially allowed for EvA65 and EvA80 dressage tests! 🎉

This change aims to support riders at these levels, helping everyone feel more confident and focused in the arena. Whether it’s your first event or you’re returning to competition, this update ensures a smoother and more enjoyable experience.

📋 Key Points:

  • Applies to EvA65 and EvA80 classes only
  • All other dressage rules remain unchanged

Riders in EvA 65 and 80 may carry a whip when entering the space around the dressage
arena and during the test.

A whip no longer than 120cm including lash, or a crop no longer than 75cm and not weighted at the end, is allowed.

The reasoning: at the entry levels riders that have calm, relaxed horses often wear spurs to better execute the transitions to trot and/or canter and are often not secure enough with their lower leg, or their legs are not long enough, to use spurs correctly
and/or safely.

March event

Work is underway at the park, getting ready for the event.

We have several rockstars prepping the course. So if you’re lucky enough to be local, drop in and lend a hand improving the course.

NCHTA loses a founding member

Sue Johnston, a founding member of NCHTA, passed away recently. She and her husband, Joe (who passed away last year), were integral to the establishment of Equestrian Park in Canberra. Without their contribution, the sport of eventing would have had a very different landscape! We are grateful that they chose Canberra as their home and that they instilled the dedication to the community in their son, Grant.

XC course maps

Once the technical delegates (who are ALSO volunteers -taking time off work) have completed their tasks of measuring every single jump to make sure it fits within the requirements, the maps will be published on the cross country app. We will share the link as soon as we have live link.
Thank you for your patience – we promise you the wait will be worth it!

Code of conduct

On the eve of our event, NCHTA would like to remind all riders, volunteers, officials and all those attending the event that Equestrian Australia has developed a Code of Conduct, that by entering you agree to abide by. To this end, here’s the link to the document, and our committee will be happy to help if anyone feels that behaviour towards them or others is in breach of that.
