Eventer Trial Competitors PLEASE READ & RESPOND!

There has been an outbreak of strangles on the border of the ACT.  There are a few confirmed or suspected cases on two properties (both distant from the event venue) which have been placed under quarantine and where appropriate biosecurity measures are being undertaken.  It is impossible to say for at least another week whether the outbreak has been successfully contained, since the incubation period is around 14 days. Obviously, we would expect that any horse from the affected area that could conceivably have been exposed and that shows any symptoms would not be brought to the event.   However, we can’t entirely rule out the possibility that there may be some infection risk to horses attending the event.

If the Eventer Trial goes ahead, it will be the responsibility of horse owners to keep their horses apart from others if they wish to minimise infection risk.  Since almost everyone will only be at the venue for the day, there will not need to be extensive use of the fixed yards and it should be reasonably possible to keep horses apart.

If a significant number of competitors advise that they do not wish to come to the event under these circumstances, we will cancel and refund entry fees minus an administrative charge to cover costs we have incurred.  In that case, it is possible that we may be able to reschedule the event for a weekend in July, but we will take entries from scratch in that case rather than carry them over from this event.

If most people advise that they still want to compete this Sunday, we will go ahead with the Eventer Trial –  In that case, we MAY be able to make partial reimbursement of entry fees to those who choose not to come.

PLEASE ADVISE BY EMAIL (canberraht@gmail.com), WITHIN THE NEXT 36 HOURS, WHETHER YOU WOULD COMPETE AT THE EVENTER TRIAL ON SUNDAY IF IT WERE TO GO AHEAD.

Final decision will be made on Friday,  and an email notification sent out  / web site update.
