Course maps for the XC

Here are the maps with correct times and distances for you to study and get excited about! Don’t forget – if you are a local, your assistance on Saturday is needed! Flagging will start at 10am. And if you have a family member who can assist with jump judging their help would be much appreciated.

Upcoming Hunter Trial

Not long to go until our Hunter Trial!

Volunteers are VIPs – and we can’t run this competition without them.

If you are handy with a whipper snipper we have many many jumps that need tidying up – a working bee this Saturday so please come if you can.

We will be flagging the XC course and setting up the SJ on Saturdy (12th) so we welcome your assistance with that.

If you can help on the 13th with either the SJ or XC jump judge – please send an email to Kate on canberraode@gmail.com

Tips for this weekend.

It’s been a while since we’ve all been eventing – so here are some tips to help the weekend run smoothly:

  • Equestrian Park is located at 208 Cotter Road, Google Maps knows where it is. So please don’t go to the National Equestrian Centre! Click here for the map.
  • Your horse must have its number visible in all three phases. It can be on your saddle blanket, or a bridle number.
  • Don’t forget to print two copies of your back number.
  • If you fall off (bummer) please remember you will need to be seen by our medical team before you can ride again/leave the venue.
  • If you are eliminated in the SJ, come and talk to the TD and you may get permission to ride XC.
  • No whips in the dressage arena.
  • No callers for dressage.
  • Volunteering is fun and helps keep committees going so that they will run another event for you.
  • EvA80 and 1* riders, unless you are competing on Sunday, you MUST leave the venue as soon as you can.
  • Keep checking this website for more information!

October event

Thank you everyone for your responses to our survey!
As you may be aware NCHTA runs three competitions a year. The March event and the Eventer Trial (scheduled for the 13 December) cater for EvA60 to 2* and our September (or October) event caters for EvA80 to 4*
From the responses to the survey it is abundantly clear that we simply can not fit the EvA60 class into this event, and for this we are truely sorry and wish we could make it work, but sadly with limited space for dressage arenas, and restrictions on the number of participants it is impossible.
Our event is run in the ACT and as such we need to comply with the regulations put in place by ACT Health.
Entries will be open soon, and will be limited to a total number of 125 horses per ODE. We are running two ODE’s on consequecutive days to maximise the number of participants able to compete over the weekend.
This means we will need XC judges for both days, so please, if you are a local rider your help is needed!
Please be patient as we all negiotate running an event in these very novel times!

39 days to go and what will the event look like?

The days are counting down to the event date.

What the event will look like is not clear at this stage, but we hope to be able to run some sort of activity that involves riding your horse over our XC course!

So we will continue to plan to hold an event, and will need volunteers to be able to be out on course, making sure things run smoothly as possible.  For anyone who is interested and available that weekend, please contact Kate and your offer will forwarded to the relevant coordinator.

Working bees

Like many committees – NCHTA relies heavily on the generous contribution of the efforts of volunteers to help bring an event about.

There are the same familiar faces out there working hard in the lead up to our events, and those that maybe wish they had more time to be able to do more.  Juggling everything is not easy (trust me – I know all about that!).   Helping out at an event is a great way to connect with those involved with the sport – as well as lightening the load on those few who probably shouldn’t do as much as they do!

This weekend we will be at Equestrian Park preparing for the event – with jobs such as flagging (a much easier job now that we have plastic flags that don’t need to be hammered into the ground), laning and whipper-snipping around the jumps.  Some mowing will also need to be done on the ride on mowers.

We welcome everyone who wishes to join us – and especially those attending ACTSJC are welcome to pop out while waiting for their turn to join in!

The almost endless list of jobs…

While it is 3 months until our next event – it’s never too early to look at the do to list for the event.

If you were wondering how an event gets up and running, and you see something that you can help out with – please don’t hesitate to get in contact with Kate (by email or whatever takes your fancy!).

Some of the tasks in the lead up to the event include:

  • Assisting with XC course building
  • flagging the XC course
  • whipper snipping around the XC jumps, dressage arenas, and yards
  • decorating the XC course
  • laning the XC course where the tracks go past the water jump and into the Cotter Plots so riders don’t go the wrong way!
  • moving the sprinklers on the sand arenas (does anyone have a spare sprinkler or two? – big ones, not pathetic little ones!)
  • Mid week prior to the event – gathering a team of people to help put the dressage arenas up (luckily we only need to build two – but we like to divide up the warm up arena as it can get a little chaotic in there!) and the letters need to be put around the 3 permanent arenas.

Friday of the event:

  • shopping at Costco for all the food for our volunteers – you will need a big car and several people – Lauren and I filled the ute with the two trolley loads and we didn’t get everything!
  • putting A-frame signs around the venue
  • putting all the rubbish bins out
  • collecting the programmes from KwikKopy in Phillip
  • cleaning the toilets (someone has to draw the short straw – and thank you to those who have done it in the past!)
  • getting all the folders for the dressage judges, show jumping officials and XC jump judges ready
  • set up the secretary/officials marquee – all the tables and chairs need to be moved from the shed down into the marquee.
  • put the boundary chain around the show jumping rings
  • help the SJ course builders with the two show jumping rings

The event itself requires many helpers – dressage pencillers, marshalls, pole pickers, gate marshals, XC jump judges, score sheet collectors to name but a few.  Please put your thinking caps on and consider friends, colleagues, horse fanatics or family members who can help out with any of those tasks.

THEN there’s the painful task of packing it all up again!  Sadly we don’t have a public holiday on the Monday – so we will try and do as much as we can on the Sunday afternoon – assuming we have any puff left!

So please don’t be shy – we are a slightly crazy but nonetheless awesome group of people, but don’t let that put you off!
