Sketch of a two lines you can take to jump the apex at 18AB
As you can see – the red flags are on the right of each path. The direct path is straight over the apex, with the option jumping both “wings” of the jump.
It’s the night before the event – and all through the house – are notes to remind me all the things I need to remember before tomorrow…..
1- remind riders it is a move up draw – so be aware you MAY ride ahead of time!
2 – remember to check in using the app –
3 – Remind everyone that volunteers are what makes events like these happen – so remember to thank them – and maybe offer to help in the future?
4- Helmet tagging will occur between 8-9 in front of the Canteen – and while you’re there buy a coffee and get some breakfast – support Canberra Lakes Pony Club!
5- All classes are run in numerical order
6- Offer to help pole pick in the show jumping while you wait between your rides.
A few riders have asked similar questions regarding the Hunter Trial….
Pairs attire can be fancy dress.
The Hunter Trial is a competition – with prizes and money – so competition attire for the SJ phase.
When riding XC you need to have a back protector, with a back number holder on you.
Your horse needs a number on it – on your bridle, or saddle. This is incase you part company and we can reunite you – even though you probably don’t want to see you horse until you have calmed down! In fact, while at the venue – if you put the bridle number on your halter it will help if it pulls back from the float and goes for a wander. (Yes this has happened to me).
The XC course will be open for walking on Saturday afternoon – if you want to, feel free to help us as we set up for the competition!
Your helmet needs a safety check tag. We have a steward on the venue who can assist with that.
On XC you are eliminated if you have 4 refusals in total, or 3 at one jump. So you could have a stop at number 4,7 and 8 and keep going, but if your horse says no at number 11 you need to walk back to your float.
If you fall off while at the competition, even when not on course, you need to be cleared by our medical team.
Here are the maps with correct times and distances for you to study and get excited about! Don’t forget – if you are a local, your assistance on Saturday is needed! Flagging will start at 10am. And if you have a family member who can assist with jump judging their help would be much appreciated.
We are so lucky that local rider and NCHTA member Sophie Coutts has recorded all of the courses. They can be found on the cross country website. A reminder that our officials need to sign off on the distances and times. We will post when they have been signed off.
It’s been a while since we’ve all been eventing – so here are some tips to help the weekend run smoothly:
Equestrian Park is located at 208 Cotter Road, Google Maps knows where it is. So please don’t go to the National Equestrian Centre! Click here for the map.
Your horse must have its number visible in all three phases. It can be on your saddle blanket, or a bridle number.
Don’t forget to print two copies of your back number.
If you fall off (bummer) please remember you will need to be seen by our medical team before you can ride again/leave the venue.
If you are eliminated in the SJ, come and talk to the TD and you may get permission to ride XC.
No whips in the dressage arena.
No callers for dressage.
Volunteering is fun and helps keep committees going so that they will run another event for you.
EvA80 and 1* riders, unless you are competing on Sunday, you MUST leave the venue as soon as you can.
Keep checking this website for more information!

They are made with BHP Aust. steel hot dipped galvanised chassis and frame, a rot proof honeycomb fibreglass floor, two pack auto paint, roller rocker suspension, custom colours and designs, 5yr warranty. Bucas Rugs Australia distributed by Wallaby Hill, run by the amazing Alex Townsend is the sponsor of the CIC3* class.  I purchased a Power Turnout light at the beginning of winter and it is quite frankly brilliant.  As everyone knows, Canberra can get a little chilly, and it has been perfect – I’ve not had to worry about taking rugs on or off during the day – a wonderful time saver!
Our local pony club are again running the canteen and have plenty of yummy homebake for sale as well as a yummy menu. Payment is by card. If you require ice, orders are accepted at the canteen rather than the secretary’s tent. $5 a bag
Thank you everyone for your responses to our survey!
As you may be aware NCHTA runs three competitions a year. The March event and the Eventer Trial (scheduled for the 13 December) cater for EvA60 to 2* and our September (or October) event caters for EvA80 to 4*
From the responses to the survey it is abundantly clear that we simply can not fit the EvA60 class into this event, and for this we are truely sorry and wish we could make it work, but sadly with limited space for dressage arenas, and restrictions on the number of participants it is impossible.
Our event is run in the ACT and as such we need to comply with the regulations put in place by ACT Health.
Entries will be open soon, and will be limited to a total number of 125 horses per ODE. We are running two ODE’s on consequecutive days to maximise the number of participants able to compete over the weekend.
This means we will need XC judges for both days, so please, if you are a local rider your help is needed!
Please be patient as we all negiotate running an event in these very novel times!
